In a few cases, a metal plate is placed over the voice box to hold the surgical repairs allowing them to heal properly.
Recovery
The patient usually is discharged on the same day. There may be a little swelling that can last for up to three days. Patients are advised to keep their essential things at an easy distance and have voice rest for a week after the surgery. After the recovery, a new feminine voice can be heard after six weeks. Speech therapy is recommended for optimum results.
Known complications
There are no complications as such, but there might be a rough voice, foreign body sensation, pain in the neck, cough, and sputum. But all this is temporary and resolves on its own with proper medication and rest. The most important thing to note to prevent the complications is that patients must always get voice feminization surgery by an experienced professional.
